pre-potty training
So about a month ago on a trip to Babies R Us I picked up at potty for Aidan so we could put it in the bathroom just to get him comfortable with it there but with no intention of starting any training. Well immediately he was interested in it and we'd let him sit on it if he tried to. Then recently I started sitting him on it right before bath time because without fail he pees in the tub within seconds of sitting down. Eventually he'll go before getting in the water, right?
So this afternoon he walked over to his potty and sat down on it with all of his clothes on. Sean laughed and said he must want to get a bath because Aidan was trying to take off his shirt and started pointing at the tub. So we realized he was associating sitting on the potty with getting a bath. Even though it wasn't bath time I let him sit on it without his diaper on. He seemed content and sat for about 15 seconds. He stood up and went over to touch the big potty. After being told to not touch it he proceeded to pee all over the floor. I guess he was trying to tell us he wanted to use the big potty. Needless to say, he got a bath out of it after all. Lucky him.
My thoughts on life right now:
Aidan is a funny kid.
Aidan is more ready for potty training than we think, but we're in no rush.
I can't believe he'll be out of diapers at some point...wow. Where are the baby days going?

weekend recap
What a lovely fall weekend. It's time for all the local fall festivals and town days and I love it!
Friday night after enjoying a delicious Chinese take-out dinner from Tokyo Mandarin, Aidan, Sean and I spent some quality time together just hanging out and getting to bed early to make up for the lack of quality sleep we've had lately.
Saturday we got up early and Aidan and I headed to Pitman day with Kathy while Sean stayed home and got the yard work done. Pitman day is huge! There are so many crafters lining the streets. They've got a little bit of everything and a lot of people! We got these great house number signs that stick in the ground. Very cute (very poor description on my part). I sprayed it with polyurethane and now it's in the ground. Love it. After Pitman day we grabbed a bite to eat at Vesuvio's. It was delicious and much needed after all of that walking. By the time we got home Sean was done yard work and getting ready to walk up to Logan day with us. We walked to the park up the street where the festivities were being held and were shocked to see how crowded it was. I guess it's the fabulous weather we're having, because it's never been as crowded as it was this year. Aidan fell asleep as we caught up with people we haven't seen in a while as we walked around. I got a couple of free loaves of bread from LaBrea bakery and a few other freebies. I love freebies. After a nice walk home we enjoyed some family time before Sean headed out to watch the fight at a friend's house while Aidan and I relaxed in our jammies. I thought I would get some stuff done once he went to bed but we both fell asleep in the chair. After putting him to bed I went right to bed myself. It felt nice.
After a very good 10 hours of sleep, we got up Sunday morning and enjoyed the crisp air as we got the newspaper and let the dog out. We only lounged for a bit before getting showered and taking a family trip to Acme. Believe it or not, it's kind of fun for all three of us to go. We only had to get a few things so it was a fairly short trip. Once we returned home we got things ready for some friends and family to stop by and watch some football. We had some yummy snacks and meatball sandwiches and lots of good company. Once everyone left our new guests arrived...see my letter below. I'm not kidding. I was sitting in the kitchen doing lesson plans when I saw a cricket, I felt sort of brave since I had just killed three earlier in the garage. Well, that's when I turned around and saw his buddy right behind me getting closer. That's when I started my sissy fit full of flailing hands and whining! No joke. I freaked out and Aidan and Sean watched me and neither jumped up to save me. Some guys. Finally after grabbing Aidan from Sean he came to my rescue and killed the crickets. Within 10 minutes of me getting back to work there was another one just feet away. Ridiculous. He got flip-flopped. Then I finished work and came into the family room and there was another one...Aidan just pointed as I yelled some expletives and told Sean to get him. Seriously? This is ridiculous. The sad thing is that wasn't the end of them. When I took Aidan up to bed Sean killed two more. I think they're coming in because it's getting colder out, but still. Get the hell out of my house you damn ugly bugs!
So, besides the evil crickets we had a really great weekend. :-)

Crickets suck.
Looking forward to Swedesboro day, a trip to Linvilla, and anything else "Fall".
Not looking forward to work because it's not as easy as many people think.
Sean's got a long to-do list coming from me, uh-oh.

Blessed
Yesterday we took Aidan to CHOP's Voorhees Cardiology unit to follow up on the mumur that was heard by the pediatrician at his 15 month appointment. Not only were we nervous about the outcome of the testing, but we were worried how Aidan would react to it all.
When we arrived I filled out the paperwork and Sean and Aidan checked out the waiting room. Aidan made himself at home and starting doing puzzles, playing with a truck, and looking at books. We got called back and had to undress Aidan and put him in a blue gown with the opening in the front that tied at the neck and waist. It was a little big and stretched all the way to the floor but he looked absolutely adorable! Once he was changed we took him over to the testing room and laid him on the table. The tech was awesome with him. She put the EKG stickers all over him and he just watched and listened to her talk to him in a very soothing voice. He loved the fish mobile above him while the test was going on. She needed him to stretch his arms and legs straight and since he wanted to keep his arm folded she held his hand, which he didn't like until she started lightly rubbing his arm. I was standing right next to him and thankfully both of us were at ease during this whole time thanks to the tech. The test was quite short and as she was taking the stickers off Aidan was playing with one of them. He loved that silly sticker.
After the EKG and since he was laying so still, the tech put the blood pressure cuff on his arm. She continued to soothe him with her voice and rub his arm while telling him it was "giving his arm a hug". After the machine was done taking his BP and she took the cuff off, he lifted his left arm for her thinking he could get a hug on that one too. Too cute and so cooperative. Next she laid a measuring stick on the table and I laid him down on top of it. He is 33.5 inches now. A half inch taller than his 15 month appointment. Since he was being such a good big boy she let him stand on the scale on his own. He looked at the Elmo sticker while the scale did its job. He weighed in at 25 pounds, less than his 15 month appointment but this scale was digital, so maybe more/less accurate. We went over to the exam room and overheard our tech tell another worker that Aidan was "so good". That was music to our ears, but we were still nervous to hear what the doctor was going to say when she came in the room. Until she came Aidan walked around the room in his socks and little blue gown as happy as could be.
The doctor came in and said he looked just like a little blue angel. He did. She also commented on how healthy he looks. She went over the EKG with us and told us he has two different kinds of murmurs. A Still's, which is very common and heard mostly when he is laying down, and a Venous which is heard mostly when he is sitting up and is often seen in toddlers with larger heads. The larger head means more blood rushing back to the heart and making the murmur. (info on the murmurs) Both are INNOCENT!!! This means that there is nothing to worry about and they won't affect him in any way. Whew. That was music to our ears for sure! She checked his pulse oxygen levels which were perfect and gave him a little once over. She said he's good to go and come back in a year or two to check it again for follow up.
We really feel blessed. We are blessed. Health is nothing to take for granted. Thank God Aidan is okay.
We treated Aidan to a trip to Babies R Us and Target where he got a new Eagles jersey and sweatshirt for being such a cooperative and healthy little guy.

Curtain made by my sister
My sister made this awesome curtain for my classroom. It's a green color and there are tons of pencil eraser (or a little smaller) size polka dots of all kinds of colors all over it. It really softened the room. I've also got one for the door to the hallway. So cute!
After a trip to Home Depot today my pot on the windowsill will finally get a plant in it. That's the pot that has Aidan's handprints on it.
